Join Us for Habitatscaping: Supporting Nature with Native Plants – May 17 in Asheville!

Mark your calendars! On Saturday, May 17, 2025, Carolina Native Nursery is thrilled to support an inspiring and vital event for gardeners, conservationists, and nature lovers alike:
Habitatscaping: Supporting Nature with Native Plants
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
A-B Tech Conference Center, 16 Fernihurst Dr, Asheville, NC 28801

This daylong environmental conference is hosted by The Rotary Club of Asheville and Bee City USA-Asheville, bringing together thought leaders, native plant advocates, and community members to celebrate and deepen our connection to native landscapes.

What Is Habitatscaping?

Coined by our friends at Gardening for Life, the term habitatscaping emphasizes gardening with a greater purpose—creating thriving ecosystems that support pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. By planting natives, we restore the balance between people and nature, one garden at a time.

Meet the Keynote Speaker: Dr. Douglas Tallamy

We are honored to welcome Dr. Douglas Tallamy as the keynote speaker for this special event. An entomologist at the University of Delaware, Dr. Tallamy is renowned for his groundbreaking work on the essential role of native plants in preserving biodiversity.

He is the best-selling author of:

  • Bringing Nature Home

  • Nature’s Best Hope

  • The Nature of Oaks

Dr. Tallamy also co-founded Homegrown National Park, a grassroots call to action encouraging homeowners to convert their yards into conservation corridors.

His work is nothing short of revolutionary—empowering everyday citizens to be ecological stewards from their own backyards.

What to Expect at the Event

  • Keynote and educational presentations on native plants, ecosystems, and habitatscaping principles

  • Local native plant vendors offering regionally appropriate trees, shrubs, perennials, and groundcovers

  • Exhibits by environmental nonprofits to connect you with local conservation initiatives

  • A chance to network with fellow gardeners, landscapers, and nature lovers

Whether you’re just starting your native garden journey or you’re a seasoned eco-gardener, this event offers knowledge, resources, and inspiration.

Why It Matters

Climate change, habitat loss, and declining pollinator populations affect us all. By planting native, we become part of the solution—building landscapes that heal and sustain life. Events like Habitatscaping remind us that even small patches of native plants can make a big impact.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to Corrie Woods and Gardening for Life for sharing the spirit—and the term—of Habitatscaping with this vibrant community effort.
