Carolina Native Nursery was and still is prepared to respond to the ever-changing challenges we face due to Covid-19. We have opened for retail take-out and applied for both the PPP (approved but no money yet) and the EIDL (received the first installment) programs, kept everyone employed and hired a few more. Through weekly webinars involving our EAGL compatriots, paying attention to N.C. Governor Cooper’s (doing a great job) state as well as local guidelines, and CDC recommendations, we think we have kept both our team members and our wonderfully understanding and cooperative clients safe. Thanks so much to everyone who has stepped up: our team, our clients, our EAGL friends, our community, and our Carolina Native families.
Spring has been beautiful in western N.C. Business has been particularly good too. Although we have put some major expansion plans of hold for now (we had begun), adjustments in space utilization and SKU optimization will still allow us to expand our native azalea production. We are also expanding our perennial and fern lists and numbers in production to better meet demand. More to come.

All routes sales on hold for now – makes us sad! For the past 2 years, we made calls on garden centers all over western NC, upstate SC, and eastern TN. We load our trucks with what looks great, stop by garden centers, and let them pick out what they can use. Our garden center friends loved it, we had fun, and sales were good. We even hired 2 new young ladies (Taylor and Natalie) that were very excited to get going, expand our footprint, and spread the good word about native plants. They look forward to being on the road again soon. In the meantime, they will be calling and making sure all our garden center friends have all the natives they need. Some of them need a lot!
Our business is strong, we were prepared financially (made it through floods, spring freezes, and the great recession), and will be in good shape when this trying time is over. All our staff can’t wait for the day we can welcome all our clients back, have lunch together, get a hug or high five. That day will be here before you know it!
William Bartram, in Travels (1791), said in the first description of the Flame Azalea, “This is the most gay and brilliant flowering shrub yet known.” We agree, and made it our brand.
We are located on 12 beautiful acres in Burnsville, North Carolina at 1126 Prices Creek Road in Yancey County, the gateway to Mt. Mitchell. Wholesale AND retail clients are always welcome. Please forward us your whole plant list and let us help. Call 828-682-1471, fax 828-682-1303, or email.
Carolina Native Nursery is open for wholesale and retail from 8:30 to 5:00 Monday-Friday throughout the year. The fact that garden centers, wholesale nurseries, and rewholesalers have such a limited selection of native shrubs, their staff possesses little knowledge of them, and they are not displayed as a group, makes a trip to see us certainly worthwhile. Plus our prices can’t be beat.
Take a moment to review our plant list before you come, or better yet print it out and make some notes. We really like cash but are happy with credit cards and checks too.
