Position:  Hourly

Reports To:  General Manager

MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

 

Position Type / Hours: Full-time with average week 40 hours; must be willing to work additional hours as needed (whatever it takes to accomplish goals and objectives) and be prepared to work in all weather conditions.
Job Description:  The Maintenance Specialist assists General Manager in the day-to-day general maintenance of facilities and grounds.  The Maintenance Specialist will perform various operational functions to ensure the effective function of the nursery by ensuring that prescribed schedules, policies and procedures are followed.
Job Activities / Responsibilities:

·        Maintain all aspects of the physical plant and grounds

·        Maintain proper inventory levels of materials and supplies used day to day

·        Handle work orders in a timely and efficient manner

·        Perform additional duties as required

·        Hang poly on greenhouses

  • Experience in general repair maintenance

·        Follow and sustain LEAN or Working Smarter program in day-to-day tasks

·        Attention to detail

·        Ability to problem solve

·        Ability to work weekends or after hours when required

·        Has a positive “can-do / will do” outlook

·        Coordinate with Nursery Manager

o   Daily review Manager’s work list for problems and repairs

o   Respond timely

·        Current facilities: Barn, cold frames and greenhouses, office

o   Inspect and repair as needed

§  All irrigation

§  Cold Frames and greenhouses

§  Winter Cover in conjunction with nursery manager

§  Repairs in response to needs

 

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Is a highly motivated, service-oriented individual with demonstrated ability to manage multiple operational matters efficiently and with accuracy
  • Must have effective listening and communication skills
  • Is able to work in all weather conditions at tasks that are sometimes physically demanding

·        Experience in general repair maintenance

·        Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of tools

·        Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of equipment

·        Be on-call if necessary for any after-hours emergencies

·        Plumbing: working knowledge of PVC, schedule 40 Maintenance and Installation

·        Electrical: working knowledge Low voltage wiring and maintenance skills

·        Carpentry: working knowledge for light carpentry and maintenance

·        Experience operating Skidsteer loader, tractors

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

 

 

 Salary: Starting $20.00 per hour plus Benefits
