Celebrating Native Beauty at Azalea Day
Celebrating Native Beauty: Carolina Native Nursery at Native Azalea Day
Spring in Western North Carolina brings a kind of magic you can’t manufacture—just
ask anyone who has walked the trails at North Carolina Arboretum during peak bloom.
Each year, Native Azalea Day invites the community to experience that magic up close—wandering through the Arboretum’s National Native Azalea Collection, where vibrant blooms and sweet fragrance fill the forest. Tucked along Bent Creek, this collection showcases one of the most diverse displays of native azaleas in the country, including 16 of North America’s 18 species.
Carolina Native Nursery is proud to be a community partner in this celebration of native plants, local ecosystems, and the people who care deeply about both.
Why Native Azaleas Matter
Native azaleas aren’t just beautiful—they’re essential.
They support pollinators, thrive in our regional climate, and help preserve the ecological balance of Southern Appalachian landscapes. The Arboretum’s collection also plays an important role in conservation, protecting species that are increasingly at risk due to habitat loss and environmental change.
Events like Native Azalea Day aren’t just about appreciation—they’re about awareness, stewardship, and connection.
A Shared Mission
At Carolina Native Nursery, our work is rooted in the same values:
- Supporting native plant ecosystems
- Educating our community
- Helping people plant with purpose
Partnering with the Arboretum allows us to extend that mission beyond the nursery—into the broader community where it matters most.
